Ganga Aarti — Om Jai Gange Mata, lyrics and meaning
'Om Jai Gange Mata' is the aarti of Ganga Maiya, sung every evening on the ghats of Haridwar, Rishikesh and Kashi. Before it, the 'Namami Gange' shloka is recited.
Ganga snan and Ganga aarti are especially important on Kartik Purnima (Dev Deepawali).
Namami gange tav pad pankajam,
Surasuraih vandit divya rupam ।
Bhaktim muktin cha dadasi nityan,
Bhavanusaren sada naranam ॥
O Ganga, whose divine form is worshipped by gods and asuras alike, I bow to your lotus feet; you always give people devotion and liberation according to their feeling.
Om jai gange mata, shri jai gange mata ।
Jo nar tumko dhyata, manavanchhit phal pata ॥
Victory to you, Mother Ganga; whoever meditates on you receives the fruit they desire.
Chandra si jot tumhari, jal nirmal ata ।
Sharan paren jo teri, so nar tar jata ॥
Your light is like the moon and your water is pure; whoever comes to your shelter is carried across.
Putra sagar ke tare, sab jag ko gyata ।
Kripa drishti tumhari, tribhuvan sukh data ॥
You liberated the sons of King Sagar, as the whole world knows; your gracious glance brings happiness to all three worlds.
Ek hi bar jo teri, sharanagti ata ।
Yam ki tras mita kar, paramgati pata ॥
Whoever comes to your shelter even once is freed from the fear of Yama and reaches the highest state.
Arti mat tumhari, jo jan nitya gata ।
Das vahi sahaj men, mukti ko pata ॥
O Mother, the devotee who sings your aarti every day easily attains liberation.
