What this harmonium has
- Keys labelled with sargam: every key shows sa, re, ga… A dot below = lower octave (mandra), a dot above = upper octave (taar).
- Pitch of sa: anything from safed 1 to safed 7 — to suit your voice.
- Sa-pa drone: to help you hold the pitch while singing.
- Tune player: play along with the glowing key; slow it down; repeat one line again and again.
- Practice mode: the song moves on only when you press the right key — as if a guru ji were sitting beside you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play the online harmonium?
Put a finger or the mouse on a key — the note keeps sounding as long as you hold it. On a computer, the keys A S D F G H J K play sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa', and W E T Y U play the black keys.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Touch the keys to play; if the keyboard is wide, you can slide it left and right. On some phones there is no sound in silent mode — switch silent off and try again.
What do safed 1 and kali 1 mean?
The key on which you start 'sa' on the harmonium is called safed 1 (C), kali 1 (C#), safed 2 (D)… and so on. Men usually sing between safed 1 and kali 2, and women between safed 4 and safed 5. Changing 'pitch of sa' here moves the whole keyboard and every song to that pitch.
What is the drone?
In the drone, the low sa and pa sound continuously, like holding one key while pumping the harmonium's bellows. It helps you hold the pitch while singing.
Is it free?
